Oscar Full Detailed Information

Oscar are a species of the Cichlidae Family. They are classified further into Astronotis Genus and ocellatuse Species. The Oscar is a huge Monster Fish and grow almost 8 to 14 inches. Their Lifespan is around from 10 to 15 years. And as Oscar are a Tropical Fish they require a heater in the tank and prefer temperatures ranging from 72 Fahrenheit to 84 Fahrenheit.


Breeding: They are a Egg Layer fish meaning they lay eggs and after a few days the fry hatch from the eggs. They reach adult hood at around 2 to 3 years when they start Breeding. But it is almost impossible to breed them in a 50 Gallon Home Aquarium. They breed in large fish farms. 


Origin: The Oscar are native to the South American Tropical Rainforest areas like the Amazon River. And not only Oscar but many more Cichlids are found in the South American Area, these Cichlids are grouped as 'The South American Cichlids'. Other South American Cichlids also include Firemouth Cichlid and Convict Cichlids.


Diet: Oscar are a carnivorous fish. There are multiple staple-diet choices for feeding Oscar. They mostly require meat in their diet so it is best to feed them live food such bloodworms , tubifex forms or small feeder fish as a treat like once or twice a month. But their staple diet should be like Freeze Dried or Frozon Food and you can also feed them Cichlid Sticks as a Staple Diet.
